luminous work -- laylage courie

I make things from words. Poetry, sound, theater, collage.

i make things from words.  things that intend towards light.  here is that round box from the attic.  inside, letters, photographs, unlabeled cassette tapes.  some embossed invitations to my imaginative parties, which are select and increasingly irregular.  like you, i grow old.  i keep my hands busy and my mind occupied.  if it would be better to hold something in your hands other than a machine send me a message and i will send you something real.

Cut and paste: I take scissors to masterpieces and assemble my own little world. A feminist re-visioning, if you will, but mostly it just pleases me.

I first made collages for my imaginary friend, The Odalisque’s, blog. But I do it now whenever I need to get at some kind of feeling or image in a non-verbal way, or to work my way into a painting that almost-mirrors my imagination’s interior pantheon.

Most of the images I use are from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I layer in snapshots from my life, typed text, and hand-writing on note paper.

These dainties decorate this entire site, but here’s a slideshow of a few that are particularly meaningful to me.
